Bella grew up with other greyhounds and she is the happiest around other dogs. She adores us, which is evident by her chatters when we come home, but the presence of another canine is like electricity for her. We've been caring for a puppy and Bella is exhausted, but she is unbelievably content.
Representation matters.
I found this artwork in my youngest's folder yesterday, and it is the best of humanity that I've seen in days. I asked him what the art meant, what he was trying to say, and he told me that he wanted everyone to work together and to matter to each other. He said he wants … Continue reading Representation matters.
Nagging guilt.
It’s hard for me to exercise when alone. When I’m meeting up with someone, I don’t feel the same struggles to prioritize. This morning, I’m not caring for an animal, I don’t have any meetings, no appointments. There is enough time to workout and take a shower before my next furry client needs my hugs. … Continue reading Nagging guilt.
Take a step.
There are times in life when things feel terribly ominous. It can feel like there is no point in hoping for good and no value in trying to do the right thing. My husband and I have been vaccinated and boosted. Our kids were vaccinated within a week of their inoculation coming to pharmacies near … Continue reading Take a step.
Nesting.
I've been walking by this mattress for weeks now and it only now occurred to me on my last walk that there is no mattress anymore. Though some might be grossed out by the awareness of critters that crawl at night, I'm in awe. The determination necessary to gradually remove stuffing and upholstery, night after … Continue reading Nesting.
River kibble.
There is a little brook that runs near our house. We pass it when the boys and I walk home after I've picked them up from school. My youngest likes to pick up random rocks and feed them to the stream. He'll laugh and tell me, "I can't forget the river kibble today!" Then, I'll … Continue reading River kibble.
Something warm.
Sugar, cards, and meh.
I don’t love Valentine’s Day. It’s a day of pressure if you’re in a relationship. Planning a gift, having money for that gift, worrying about disappointing the person you care about, etc. When not in a relationship, the pressure can be that you don’t have a person to stress over. As a parent, the weight … Continue reading Sugar, cards, and meh.
Church pew crawl.
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these". --------Matthew 19:14 During church service today, I lost one of our kids. My husband was working in the sound booth and I was checking attendance, so it was a perfect time … Continue reading Church pew crawl.
Their dad has cancer.
When I married my husband almost 16 years ago, I didn’t consider that being a wife also meant that I might one day be a widow. As my husband’s health has declined over the last few years, I’ve become more aware of the possibility that he may be taken from me. This pandemic has been … Continue reading Their dad has cancer.
