I’ve been walking by this mattress for weeks now and it only now occurred to me on my last walk that there is no mattress anymore. Though some might be grossed out by the awareness of critters that crawl at night, I’m in awe. The determination necessary to gradually remove stuffing and upholstery, night after night, providing warmth and protection from the elements and possibly predators is astounding. In moments like these, I’m reminded that we share this earth we live on. All creatures, great and small.
