Beka Tucker

Romp, expedition, adventure, odyssey, quest. Along the way, maybe I’ll find better words to describe my life. My days are filled with the work of raising children, serving a retired canine racing queen, trying to run when my body allows it, hugging my husband, choosing between board games, books, and sleep, and never being truly bored.

Sometimes, it’s not all joy.

I think most of the time, faith is not easy for me.  For some, being a Christian seems like the most obvious choice.  Sunday mornings are refreshing and attending bible class other times during the week is worth the effort for how it makes them feel, the energy it gives them to face their lives … Continue reading Sometimes, it’s not all joy. →

I’m not trying to take your guns.

I voted on Tuesday and came out to the news that more children had been killed by gun violence.  They were not my biological children, but they were still mine to care about and to keep safe, to help grow and live.  When children die from guns, we are all responsible.  When children kill other … Continue reading I’m not trying to take your guns. →

Self-care.

I took a shower yesterday for the first time in several days, scrubbing off bug spray, sunblock, and the general dirt of my everyday existence.  While smelling my soap, breathing in deeply to try and calm myself, I realized how little I like the word self-care.  There are countless essays and articles about how important … Continue reading Self-care. →

Sunny girl.

Much like a cat, Bella loves the sun and glares at me when I tell her it's time to come in.

It’s hard to write.

Sometimes, writing is like a running faucet, a constant stream of ideas and thoughts. Other times, writing is painful and human and it brings me to places I'm not ready to go to, that I don't want to go to, or that I'm just flat ignoring any existence of. There are days, occasionally many in … Continue reading It’s hard to write. →

She stayed.

We made a house for her on the porch. Every morning, she greets me. Some days, she'll come out to the truck when I pull up. She tells me all about her adventures and then rolls in the grass, letting the sun warm her. Feeding her is one of my favorite things to do, because … Continue reading She stayed. →

Southern guilt.

Georgia is known for many things. People raised here don't understand a world without Chick-fil-a. Chick-fil-a embodies some of the best and some of the worst things about southern culture. This photo is tangible evidence of the southern expectation that apologies be attached to something physical, proof that the expression of remorse was meant in … Continue reading Southern guilt. →

Delivery.

As I’ve learned to pay more attention to what excursions drain me and which ones give me something to work with, I’ve realized that I both like and dislike shopping.  I like going to a store specifically to treasure hunt in the clearance aisles.  Finding good deals on supplies to donate to teachers and area … Continue reading Delivery. →

They rested.

Luke 23:55-56 The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed Joseph and saw the tomb and how his body was laid in it.  Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes.  But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment. This last sentence really stuck with me and has been … Continue reading They rested. →
