Beka Tucker

Romp, expedition, adventure, odyssey, quest. Along the way, maybe I’ll find better words to describe my life. My days are filled with the work of raising children, serving a retired canine racing queen, trying to run when my body allows it, hugging my husband, choosing between board games, books, and sleep, and never being truly bored.

Which password?

Given the amount of time that has passed since my last post, I'm amazed there are still views! Your patience has more pluck than mine. After losing my computer beneath my bed and finding it again weeks later with no battery power, I put my computer right back under my bed once I realized that … Continue reading Which password? →

Stormy weather.

When a storm is in the distance, I enjoy writing outside. The breeze cools my skin and the thunder is soothing. The misty air is balmy and for a little while, I can imagine I'm at the beach, listening to the waves from a balcony, tasting the salt on my tongue. I pay attention to … Continue reading Stormy weather. →

Giant pop-tart.

My kids love pop-tarts and I don't normally keep them around. I thought over their spring break I'd experiment with some pie crust dough, strawberry jam, vanilla icing, and sprinkles. I post the meals I intend to make on our fridge so the kids can feel prepared and "giant pop-tart" got more of a response … Continue reading Giant pop-tart. →

Happy noodle girl.

Sometimes, a day at the park is all she needs and I thoroughly enjoy her enjoyment. I'm still in awe when she runs. It continues to be one of the most amazing things to behold. I also love how she finds random people and leans on them. I've never seen anyone not stop to stroke … Continue reading Happy noodle girl. →

Words don’t come.

A lot has been happening for me and finding time to write is a challenge. Beyond this, sometimes, words don't come or I have too many and no clear direction in my thoughts. Then, there are times like this one today, when I have words but I don't like them. More children have died in … Continue reading Words don’t come. →

Noodle Girl

My husband has said that every photo of Bella looks like it uses a stretch filter. When we first met her, the day we took her home, I had no idea what to do with her. Our previous dog had been a solid white, fluffy husky with ice blue eyes. Hugging her was like hugging … Continue reading Noodle Girl →

President Carter is dying, and though you’d think that would be incredibly important here in Georgia, it’s not necessarily front page news for everyone.  Jimmy Carter united the counties of Georgia back in 1976.  For the first time, every county voted for a Democratic candidate.  Georgia had been a red state.  When Nixon ran in … Continue reading 39 →

Gone fishin’

A little while ago, I attended the Association of Partners in Christian Education (APCE) conference virtually.  I was a face in a box on a screen listening to John Pavlovitz sharing his thoughts on compassion fatigue and the steps needed for work in ministry to be sustainable.  He offered an affirming, yet uncomfortable suggestion to … Continue reading Gone fishin’ →

Holy matrimony.

It wasn’t until leaving the churches of christ and joining a presbyterian church that I heard my marriage referred to as holy.  It’s not that holiness hadn’t been attributed to me previously, but not in this new, more loving and dignifying manner.  Prior, it was my state of virginity specifically that I remember being identified … Continue reading Holy matrimony. →

Perspective.

Our back door is finicky.  Without finesse, it doesn’t latch properly, leaving room for our pup to nudge it open with her greyhound noodle nose.  Tonight, she did just that, but I have yet to close it back behind her.  There are moments, like the one I’m sitting with right now, that my senses bring … Continue reading Perspective. →
