Porch Kitty is now Lady Gray.

Amazingly, this stunning cat is still here, claiming our family as hers. It has been over two years since I first wrote about her publicly. Our friendship has changed with time and she clearly doesn’t mind being in my space, as demonstrated by the photo above. I answered some messages from clients in my truck before going in the house and Lady Gray decided the heat from the engine was a splendid napping aid. She no longer watches from a distance, but eagerly comes for pets from all of us. It isn’t uncommon to find her curled up in sawdust piles, watching my husband building some new piece of furniture outside or monitoring the kids play in the yard from a safe spot on the porch as their feline referee. If I see her shadow disappear from the window in the late afternoon, it’s usually because she has gone to meet my eldest at the far edge of the yard. She watches him come down the street from the bus stop and waits for him to be safely within the yard. She leaves us mice and birds and sits with me on the porch, rubbing against my legs and purring. Her purr is divine and talking with her, even for just a few seconds while I feed her breakfast, is a genuinely happy moment in my days.
